Annual Musical

The 2019 production is…
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!

The South Church Players continues its 25+ year tradition of staging a musical each year. Come join us…it’s going to be fun! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, originally shown on Broadway in 2005, is the story of six competing tweens. The audience will be treated to vignettes that expose some of the back-stories and pressures that drive these contestants. A prior champion moderates the competition, the long-term vice-principal of the school provides the words and definitions, and the comfort counselor consoles the losers.

Come and join this long-standing, multi-generational small group fellowship. You are welcome to participate if you are young or old, new to the church or a long-time member. You are welcome if you are musically inclined, and we’ll take you if you’ve never sung a note on stage. Are you a strong dancer? You are welcome to join us. Two left feet? You are just as welcome to join us. Will you join us as an individual? With one parent? As a family? You are welcome any way you come to our group. Have you been with us for many years? Welcome back. Will this be your first experience with the South Church Players? Wonderful! You will have an opportunity to meet church members of all ages, and see them in a different setting than usual. The bonds created last long after each performance.

In addition to actors, singers and dancers, we require musicians, carpenters, sewers, painters, and lots of organizational people – as many as 150 altogether. All participants must attend auditions to fill out paperwork so that assignments to choruses, dance groups, etc. are based upon numbers, age, height, etc. Individual tryouts are held for featured parts and dance groups.
