SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER
ORIENTATION & MEETING

Saturday, Sept. 11, 8:30am-12:30pm

Fellowship Hall

SUMMER SUNDAYS

For K-5th grade.  GARDEN, GAMES & GOSPEL -During the summer service, children will head outdoors after the first part of worship to work in the vegetable garden, hear a Gospel story and/or play games that relate to the story making learning fun.

Spend a half hour of fun in the sun with the children and team up to “teach” one Sunday.  A simple lesson plan along with gardening tools will be provided.  Please contact Terry Ebner to volunteer or to donate children’s gardening tools, at: tebner@southchurch.com. Thank you!

SUMMER NURSERY is for children up to five years of age.  Volunteer sign-up is posted on the Nursery door or email Jolie Drury at: toliejhomas@hotmail.com.

SUNDAY SCHOOL OUTREACH

Joining Hands - This year we’re partnering with Neighbors in Need and Communities Together in an effort to join hands with the families and children at Hancock Courts Housing Project, Lawrence.  NIN lends a helping hand to folks at Hancock who struggle to provide meals for their families, especially at the end of the month when food stamps run out.  Communities Together offers an after school and summer program for children at Hancock called “Manos Felices!”  Happy Hands at Hancock, for preschool to 5th grade.

Here are a few ways we hope to join hands:

 ·        Filling the Red NIN wagons each week with food donations

·         Preparing a meal for the children at the end of one month

·         Collecting and categorizing gently used children’s books

·         Reading to children at Hancock Courts and listening as they read

·         Partnering with “Manos Felices” in a Vacation Bible School program

Details are in the works.  In the meantime, please encourage your children to remember a Sunday School offering for “Manos Felices” and food donation for Neighbors In Need.

GIFTS FOR CHILDREN

The Board of Christian Education would like to thank all the many people who contributed gifts to the children of our community.  Over 200 wrapped Christmas gifts for 168 children were delivered to Los Amigos after school program in Lawrence, three huge bags of mittens made it to Manos Felices (Happy Hands) Hancock Court’s after school program and a trunk full of baby items now stock the shelves at Bread and Roses Soup Kitchen.  Special thanks to Christina Curtin-Orsmond who organized these efforts!

SUNDAY SCHOOL DISMISSAL POLICY

We have a good system, but it never hurts to re-emphasize our dismissal policy.  Young children in Nursery - 4th grade should be picked up by a parent or authorized person promptly at the close of worship.  Something new:  Please notify teachers in writing if your child is to be dismissed with someone other than a parent.  Only 5th grade or older children may be responsible for picking up a younger sibling.

K-HIGH SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL DISMISSAL

Because it is difficult to know the exact time sanctuary worship will end, and lesson time is so brief for K-High School classes, teachers like to plan a lesson that will engage the children until 11:45.  Therefore, we ask your patience in waiting until then for your child.  Nursery – Pre-K children should be picked up immediately following worship.

NUT FREE ZONE

The Rompers Nursery -School located in the Discovery room (our pre-school/pre-K Sunday school class) has become a NUT-FREE zone. We shall continue their example on Sundays by consuming only nut-free snacks and taking an extra precaution to wipe our hands as we enter the room.  Note the availability of hand-wipes at both door entries. Any questions, please contact Terry Ebner at: terry@yahoo.com.
