May 7th is an important upcoming date. There will be a special congregational meeting that day where we will be voting on whether South Church will sell the land it owns at 8 Lupine Road to Andover Community Trust and Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing. We believe this is an exceptional opportunity for the families that will own the homes as well as for us to come together as a congregation to support the build and the families. You may already be aware of the proposal – there have been several informational meetings, however more meetings are planned and we encourage you to come and find out more. Here are the past and upcoming events:
January 23 – Initial presentation to Church Council
February – Presentation to Trustees and all other church committees, boards, groups
March 5 – Open Q&A, visits to neighbors so they are aware of our potential plan
March 12 – History of Mary Byers Smith and the gift of land to South Church – by Char Lyons
March 26 – Getting to know ACT and Habitat
April 2 – What will SC do with any proceeds of the sale?
April 23 – Open Q&A
April 30 – Open Q&A
May 7th – the vote
If after church meetings don’t work for you, please contact us at Lupine@southchurch.com so that we can find a time to meet with you that works for your schedule.
