South Church, with West Parish, hosts the Charles Wesley Singers

South Church, with West Parish, hosts the Charles Wesley Singers youth choir of Damascus United Methodist Church, Damascus, Maryland.

This traveling youth choir relies on the hospitality of the communities they visit. We are asking for folks to volunteer their homes for one night to host a one or two people from this group. They’ll be coming to South Church on the morning of the 24th to have breakfast, participate in a hymn sing and worship service and then hit the road for their next gig! If you or your family could volunteer a bed for these teens, please sign up using this Google Doc. If you have any questions, email Jenn Murray

The choir tour, a mission of Damascus United Methodist Church, is touring New England in late June, sharing “Of Prayer and Prophecy”, a concert featuring Mendelssohn’s “Hear My Prayer”, sacred anthems, selections for chamber ensemble, and organ improvisation and soloists.

The choir comprised of 50+ singers, ages 6th to 12th grade, rehearse once a week, sharing all styles of music in four part harmony, including works by master composers, contemporary Christian slecetons, Gospel and Spirituals, and traditional sacred favorites. The choir tours every year with recent tours in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado and Canada.

The free concert will be held at West Parish Church at 7:30pm. A free-will offering will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence.
