WORSHIP BAND!
Last year we created a musical group to provide leadership in some
worship services, especially some of the monthly alternative
services. It is a “praise” style group, including singers,
electric and/or acoustic guitars, keyboard, drums, and other
instruments in the rock and/or folk genre. We keep a schedule for
rehearsals and worship involvement will be determined by
participants. This promises to be FUN!!! So if you have some
musical talent you want to share with your church friends, please
come join in the fun.

SANCTUARY
ORGAN
The Sanctuary
organ is a 3-manual tracker pipe organ built by George Bozeman.
Jr. and Co. A Steinway grand piano also graces the
sanctuary. Instrumentalists from the congregation are warmly
encouraged to share their musical gifts in regular services and
as part of any special musical works which take place. We are
privileged to have string, wind, and brass players among us, as
well as pianists, organists, and vocal soloists. Percussionists,
classical and contemporary guitar players, and liturgical
dancers further enhance the rich array of musical and artistic
offerings at South Church.
SOUTH CHURCH MUSICAL
The Performing Arts Group of South Church
puts on a fully staged musical yearly.
Past performances have included
Seussical,
Godspell,
The Wizard of Oz,
Children of Eden, Honk,
The Music Man, and Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, among others. All who wish to participate are included,
with the requirement of regular attendance at rehearsals.
One of the primary goals of this
group is family-focused, multi-generational fellowship. Casts
include members from first grade and older and all musical
abilities. Children 10 and under are required to have a parent on
stage with them.
This major project requires actors,
singers, dancers, musicians, carpenters, sewers, painters, and
lots of organizational people—as many as 150 altogether. All participants must attend auditions to
fill out paperwork so that assignments to choruses and dance
groups are based upon numbers, age, size, etc.
Individual tryouts are held for
featured parts and dance groups. The show is not yet decided and
will be announced in late fall. Watch the
5 Minutes for
information. Rehearsals begin in early January and the musical
will be performed on
March 19th, 20th and 21st, 2010.
