SOUTH CHURCH Annual Musical March 20-22, 2020
HONK! is the story of the Ugly Duckling, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry Cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms.
HONK! is performed with simple sets and costumes—the characters are people with animal-like characteristics. No feathers or fur necessary! It is a wonderful choice for South Church because of the diversity of parts and number of small groups. There are multiple adult and teen leads, small groups for men, women, teens, and children, including dance groups–chickens, ducks, geese, swans, ducklings, fish, frogs and froglets, trees, cattails, water, falling leaves, and snowflakes.
We need singers, dancers, and instrument players—young and old alike! We need many hands to help with costumes, T-shirt design, posters, publicity, telephone calls, props, lights, sound and a set—something for everyone.
Performances of HONK! will take place the weekend of March 20, 21 and 22, 2020.
Auditions will be held December 4 and 9 at 7 p.m. Callbacks for a few lead parts will be determined later. If you are not invited to callbacks, it does not mean that we are not considering you for a part.
Rehearsals of the full cast will start on Sunday, January 5, 2020. Small group rehearsals will be scheduled on weeknights, based on availability. Your level of involvement will be determined in part by your REGULAR AVAILABILITYat the times various numbers and groups are scheduled. You should anticipate a heavy rehearsal schedule the weeks of March 9, and March 16, as well as the full weekends of March 7/8 and 14/15—PLEASE do not make any conflicting plans for those 2 weeks!
NOTE: there is no chorus and very few rehearsals for the whole cast before we begin run-throughs. Most of the cast will rehearse in small groups until late February. We will form groups based in part upon the availability that you indicate when you audition.
Stage construction
will take place on Sunday, March 8.
