Jeffrey Cutts began his post as Minister of Music at South Church in August of 2016. A native of Andover, Jeffrey grew up attending South Church for his entire young life through the end of high school, when he moved to Nashville, TN to study music at Vanderbilt University. After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in musical arts with studies in voice and organ, Jeffrey moved to Princeton, NJ to pursue a Master of Music degree in sacred music at Westminster Choir College. Prior to his appointment at South Church, Jeffrey was the Minister of Music at Grace-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hamilton, NJ, while simultaneously spending much of his time as a freelance choral and solo singer in Philadelphia and New York City.
Jeffrey believes in the central importance of music in church, and he values liturgical music that is diverse, interesting, and relevant to the worship experience. He also believes in the inclusiveness of music-making and encourages all who are interested to come make music with the groups at South Church.
Jeffrey lives in Andover with his wife, Lainie, whom he met one day in choir rehearsal at Westminster. A self-proclaimed “musical omnivore,” Jeffrey loves listening to, talking about, or performing just about any kind of music imaginable. When he is not making music, Jeffrey is an enthusiastic cook and avid home brewer. He has been keeping a blog of his many exbeerimentations since 2010, which you can find at cuttshomebrew.blogspot.com.
