Our conversation about racism continues this week as we read the prologue and chapters 1 and 2 of “The Third Reconstruction: How a Moral Movement Is Overcoming The Politics of Division and Fear” by The Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II with Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove (available on Amazon Kindle).
Mary Pritchard has viewed YouTube videos of the Rev. William J. Barber and recommends watching a little to get a sense of who he is as a person.
YouTube is rich with his sermons and speeches. They are mostly an hour in length if not more. Here is a 10 minute speech he gave at the the 2016 Democratic National Convention – it’s short but he lays out what he and his call to justice are all about.
“The Hope of America’s Possibility” is a 60 minute speech given in 2019 at the Othering
and Belonging Institute. The young woman who introduces him gives a great and comprehensive introduction of him.
In 2016 there was a special evening called “Racism, Politics and the Gospel: Rev. Jim Wallis
and the Rev. William J Barber II” – it’s a compelling interview with these two pastors.
It’s also powerful to see WRB give sermons in hallowed ground like the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
View his sermon “When Silence is Not an Option”
given at the beautiful Riverside Church in NYC.
