We’re entering Lent in a time when many of us are carrying more than usual. The news feels relentless. Our bodies and spirits are tired. The divisions in our country – and sometimes in our families – feel impossibly wide. And if we’re honest, the traditional Lenten call to “give something up” can feel like one more thing to fail at when we’re already barely holding it together. So this year, we’re doing something different.
This Lent, we’re paying attention to what’s really going on in our lives – and offering sacred blessings for it all. Each week we’ll focus on a different human experience that needs the church’s blessing: anxiety, exhaustion, anger, disappointment, and brokenheartedness. We’ll hold them up to the light, and trust that God meets us exactly where we are – not where we think we should be. Because despair is not the opposite of hope. It’s an ingredient of it.
Know that you will be warmly welcomed at whichever gatherings or activities call to you.
